The SIB Story....

What started as a mere conversation turned into an award-winning business within a matter of years.

SIB Services was founded by two brothers, Stephen and Iain Birnie. The boys grew up on the family farm and have always had a keen interest in farming. The business was launched back in late 2015, with the purchase of a 13-ton excavator. With the digger proving popular, Stephen and Iain turned their attention to trailers and the Birnie Bale Safe was born.

The dream was to create a trailer that would offer time-saving solutions, whilst maintaining health and safety. The Birnie Bale safe is a multi-purpose trailer which creates a secure load of bales up to three-high. The multi-purpose nature of the trailer allows farmers to load a variety of products including potato boxes, fertilizer bags, square and round bales.

A lot of time was spent sourcing a suitable manufacturer to build the trailer to specification and to such high standards.  Partnering with Mark Hall Machinery in Northern Ireland, they finally found a manufacturer who excels.  Each trailer is built meticulously to detail and with the customer at the heart of the design, to create a bespoke solution to meet individual needs.

With the Birnie Bale Safe becoming widely renowned, SIB Services has grown its portfolio to include standard trailers.  The company now has a vast range of trailers available and is official dealers for Dooley trailers, Hogg Engineering, and Mark Hall Machinery.  SIB is also an exclusive UK dealer for Dinapolis. Having this variety on offer allows farmers of all budgets to find a trailer suitable for their needs.

The Scottish Government brought in laws which commenced in 2019, where farmers had to put an end to burning plastic. After endless searching on how best to combat farm plastic, Stephen and Iain collaborated with PEL Waste Reduction Equipment, based in Cork, Ireland.  We are proud to be an official agent for PEL, which means we can supply award-winning plastic balers across the UK. The balers have been extremely popular since they were introduced to the business in 2018.

2018 was an award winning year for SIB Services. The Birnie Bale Safe entered the Technical Innovation Award at the Royal Highland Show where it competed against large manufactures and won Silver. True to the typical farming lifestyle, Stephen and Iain read a variety of farming magazines. In the Farmers Guardian, up popped the British Farming Awards which they decided to enter with no expectation of getting very far. They entered the Birnie Bale Safe into Machinery and Farm technology of the year and won the gold. After such great success with the Bale Safe, the duo decided to enter the plastic waste balers into the same competition at the Royal Highland Show and received the Commendation Award.

With trailers supplied across the UK, Ireland and Sweden, SIB is keen to continue its growth by developing solutions to improve farm efficiency, productivity and sustainability.  We are always on the lookout for innovative products to add to the SIB offering.
